A record of action, and a promise of more.12.35.38am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 4th Jun 2009
The North West's Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament, Chris Davies, has an impressive record of action. Electing more Lib Dems to Europe will lead to even greater action on issues that matter. 1. Leading the fight for tougher environmental action: Chris Davies MEP is a European leader for better environmental legislation. By speaking out for legislation to improve car emission standards Chris Davies has made sure that cars do less damage to the environment and also do more miles to the gallon, saving British people on their fuel bills. 2. Winning the fight for tougher health warnings on tobacco: Chris Davies MEP took up the cause of parents everywhere by successfully writing laws that put better warnings on cigarette packets to stop children taking up smoking. Across the EU cigarette packs now carry graphic images showing people the consequences of smoking so they don't even start the habit in the first place. 3. Standing up against expenses fiddles: Chris Davies MEP is standing up for taxpayers by exposing expenses fiddles by a few MEPs. Most MEPs work hard and claim the minimum needed but Chris blew the whistle and leaked a secret report that exposed the wrongdoing of the few. Some newspapers have said Chris has personally refused to claim £2 million in expenses in 10 years. The Liberal Democrat candidates for the North West European Parliament election on June 4th 2009 are Chris Davies, Helen Foster-Grime, Sue McGuire, Qassim Afzal, Neil Corlett, Mark Clayton, Stephen Cooke, Peter Hirst. Polls are open from 7am to 10pm. The results will be announced on Sunday 7th June.
